This is an electric line grid system throughout Vancouver for the electric buses. Much of Vancouver's power grid is from hydro electric dams.
Like many buses in Vancouver, this one is powered by cleaner burning propane fuel. This company also runs several other buses that run on bio-diesel. This makes a much cleaner atmosphere for plants and people because diesels are stinky! BTW: I drive a 1978 Mercedes-Benz 300D that runs on vegetable oil that I bought from my buddy Tim. Tim (R) and I (L) in picture below.
Vancouver is very bike-friendly. There are designated bike lanes throughout the city. People power is encouraged and many residents carry their bikes on buses and ferries.
"People power" have the power to stop vehicles to cross the road. BTW.....70 to 75% of Vancouver downtown residents don't drive a vehicle to work.
Ferries shuttle people from North Vancouver to downtown across Barrard Inlet. This saves tons of vehicle traffic. B.C. Ferries also provide several trips daily to Vancouver Island.
Sea planes provide convenience for people from downtown to Victoria on Vancouver Island among other destinations.
This is the Sky Train that runs from Surrey to downtown Vancouver.
People aren't the only source of power in Vancouver!
The city maximizes available lanes in and out of downtown by changing lane directions during peak hours. This picture is going over the Lions Gate Bridge, connecting Stanley Park with North Vancouver. BTW: Vancouver choose not to destroy their waterfront and the unique small portions of the city, Gastown, Chinatown, etc. by not putting in a highway that would have destroyed this historical downtown district. It is the only the major city in North America that has no major highways or freeways coming in or out of the city.
GREEN SPACE
Stanley Park is unique green space in a city of this size, it shows the importance on green space in an area of over 3 million people, with a large housing shortage downtown.
Here is a building on English Bay on the west end of downtown with a mature tree on the roof. Many downtown buildings have trees, grasses, gardens and other foliage on their balconies and roofs.
Every home and yard is lined with heavy foliage, hedges and trees. This helps with cooling and heating the home.
All along the waterfront, trees and foliage are important to minimize weather impacts, provide visual beauty. recreation, sound dampening and by providing a "tropical" Vancouver.
Palm trees!!! Not what I was expecting in Canada. How is this possible?

Recycling is a way of life in Vancouver. In British Columbia there is a deposit not only on cans and bottles but juice,water,milk and many other daily used items. Even public litter is easily recyclable.
Not only are Canadian businesses smoke-free, but in Vancouver so are the parks and beaches.
